Anika’s Notes: If you know me even a little, and you’ve seen my reactions to this card, you can probably guess that I have a hundred thousand things to gush about 😂 and honestly?

I do apologize for nerding out so much but one of the core reasons I was convinced to translate this card was just how in detail the Chinese wedding traditions, cultural beliefs, and literary works were incorporated to craft this beautiful story to show the level of devotion and reverence with which Li Zeyan and his MC treat their relationship. so, if you’re proceeding beyond this point, please do bear with me haha~ 🥹

also!! If you’re a Li Zeyan stan reading this, CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR MARRIAGE!!! 🎉 *last time, we got a duet proposal! (see here) and this time, the man grabbed the chance in a heartbeat to marry you FOR REAL™ IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY IT COULD BE REAL (and looking at how they emphasized the wedding with his card call, it’s probably as real as it’d ever get, b/c PG is coward, so take your win for now LMAO) *****😭❤️

Couple of things before we start:

— you can, of course, read on your phone, and it’s completely fine btw. but if you have access to a larger screen (PC/ tablet), I’d personally recommend switching there, b/c then you’d be able to truly enjoy the hard work i put into formatting this LOL 😭

— the lines i wanted to bring focus on are underlined~ 😙

— the footnotes are all linked to their respective blocks for easier navigation (colored in red)~ 🫠

— the external/ reference links are colored in pink~ 🫶

![ Palanquin (喜轿) is a bridal sedan chair that is used to carry the bride to the groom’s house in a traditional Chinese wedding ceremony. It symbolizes transition and new beginning, the bride’s journey from her family home to her new life with her husband.

The date is titled 喜轿之约, but Palanquin Date sounds weird LOL, so I had to get creative and opt for synonyms, and since is derived from 约言 (promise/ pledge), I went with “Promise of the Palanquin” + it works nicely to convey the foreshadowing the writers intended haha.

T/N: even aside the call-backs, they truly couldn’t have chosen a more fitting name for this story sobs 😭](https://prod-files-secure.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/ee51b4aa-7dfb-44f4-95ea-38f9d2b52da3/3b9457a0-aae2-4788-be4e-6b666b7dd233/14642377435_d07fc03d7d_b.jpg)

VERY VERY VERY HIGHLY recommend reading/ brushing up on Li Zeyan’s “Colors of the Human World” Mind’s Quest (2020) before reading this b/c tons of callbacks to the card story and Ronan’s film “Dévotion” that ****LZY and MC starred in are littered throughout. The callbacks act as the bridge for everything that takes place in this card + event story, so it’s not only crucial to have knowledge about the MQ for a comprehensive experience but also for the emotional hits~ 🫶

MC: The international film festival that’s opening in a couple of days is actually founded by Ronan?

LZY: Strictly speaking, he’s more of a co-founder.

On the couch, I turn off the news on my phone with a start and sit up from Li Zeyan’s embrace.

MC: Then shouldn’t we go to the festival and show our support? You two haven’t seen each other in such a long time~

LZY: I asked him earlier, he’s filming overseas and won’t be able to make it back.

LZY: But, he arranged for the organizers to send us two tickets for the closing screening.

He curls the corners of his lips and hands me the two tickets.

When I see the words RYIFF Closing Screening: ‘Dévotion (2020)'" printed on the tickets, I freeze on the spot, somewhat incredulous.

MC: I-Isn’t this the movie we acted in?

LZY: Mm. As per what Ronan said, the selection committee voted overwhelmingly to feature it as the closing film.
